Abstract:
This paper contains the descriptions and notes of three species of parasitic nematodes in our pond fishes.Anguillicola globiceps Yamaguti,is a very common species found in the swimming bladder of Anguilla japonica.Pingus sinensis Hs?is living in the intestine and caecum of Ophicephalus argus. Philometra carassii(Ishii),Comb.Nov.,being a parasite in the connective tissue of the caudal fin of Carassius auratus, was originally reported by Ishii as Filaria carassii in Japan. But as this particular parasite is characterized by devoid of lips on its mouth,no partition into muscular and glandular portions of the oesophagus, lacking of cervical papilla and ala, atrophied anus and vulva, almost entire occupation of the body by the uterus, two small ovaries one at each end of the body and viviparous reproduction,it seems to the writer that the worm in question should be reclassified as a Philometra.
