Abstract:
Three reservoirs are subject to this investigation:Pan-chao,Shek- man-tan and Pai-sha,all located in Honan Province,China. The fish fauna and plankton condition therein, together with some chemical and hydrographical features relevant to fishery management, are described. Measures are suggested for utilizing these reservoirs to increase fish yield.Instead of relying on fish population naturally present in these reservoirs, the authors recommend the stocking of yearlings of the plank-ton feeder,Aristichthys nobilis (Rich.),supplemented in small measure by other species of cultivation.Prospective productivity is tentatively estimated at 150 kg per hectare for Pan-chao Reservoir, and 280 kg per hectare for Pai-sha Reservoir.
