MECHANISM OF BIODEGRADATION OF ORGANOPHOSPHATE PESTICIDES IN AQUATIC ECOSYSTEM 2. THE DYNAMICS OF P-NITROPHENOL DEGRADATION BY PSEUDOMONAS SP. CTP-02

  • Pseudomonas sp. CTP-02, isolated from the oxidation pond in YL region, is able to use p-nitrophenol as sole carbon sources. Optimum temperature of p-nitrophenol degradation is 35°. Optimum pH is 7.5. The rate of p-nitrophenol degradation can be expressed as dc/dt=—k1t—k2. When the cultures of Pseudomonas sp. CTP-02 were supplied with p-nitrophenol, stoichiometric quantities of nitrite were released. The result shows that aromatic nitro group is detached before the ring fission.
