A SURVEY ON THE COMMERCIAL TRAMMEL NET FISHERY IN THE UPPER REACHES OF THE YANGTZE RIVER

  • From 1997 to 1999, a survey on the status of the driftedtrammel net fishery was taken.59 species, among which 17 species are endemics to the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, were found in the catches of trammel nets.Mesh sige of inner panel range from 10 to 180 mm in the Hejiang reach, and less than 50 mm in the Yibin reach.Regional and temporal differences of catch composition were observed.Dominant species in the catches are Pelteobagrus vachelli, Coreius guichenoti, Cyprinus carpio, Rhinogobio ventralis, Coreius heterodon, Leiocassis longirostris, and Silurus Meridionalis.Average daily catch per boat was 1.222-1.949 kg in Yibin, 4.034-4.573 kg in Hejiang in 1998-1999, which was much less than that of 1973.
