  • Taxonomy of Aphanizomenon has been problematic for a long time due to the fact that the morphylogical characters of the filaments,vegetable cells,terminal cells,heterocysts,and akinetes in the genus are found to be variable.Based on the existing taxonomic system,Aphanizomenon strains collected in China were examined for their morphylogical charecters including filaments,vegetable cells,terminal cells,heterocysts,and akinetes.The results showed that two newly recorded species of Aphanizomen were found from Chinese freshwater bodies.Therefore,these two species including A.gracile Lemmermann and A.issatschenkoi(Usaev)Prokina-Lavrenko,were reported and described in this study for details.
