FUNCTIONS OF HEMOCYTES OF ANODONTA WOODIANA PACIFICA(HEUDE)DURING THE PROCESS OF WOUND HEALING BOTH IN VITRO AND IN VIVO

  • This paper reports the functions of hemocytes of Anodonta woodiana pacifica (Heude) during the process of wound healing and pearl sas formation by using pieces of mantle allograft and the mixed culture of pieces of mantle and hemocytes in vitro. After the operation of artificial pearls, the hemocytes exhibited abilihes to form layers of agranulocytes to heal wounds and induce the migration and fegeneration of epithelial cells to form pearl sac. Comparing the tissue culture experiment in which hemocytes were added with the control group without adding hemocytes it was found that the hemocytes in the former can induce more signifilcantly and rapidly the migration and regeneration of the mantle epithelial cells to form the cover layer on the whole face of wounds, which is similar to the structure of pearl sac. It is thus demonstrated that the functions of hemocytes in vitro are basically the same as those in vivo during the process of wound healing and pearl sac formation. This paper is the first to report the successful production of pearl sacs by using tissue culture technique in this field.
