Abstract
Three protein sources: fish meal, soybean meal and potato protein concentrate were tested to investigate the effects of replacement of fish meal in the diets on the growth and energy budget of gibel carp(Carassius auratus gibelio)in a respirometer system in which feed intake(C), faecal production(F), metabolism(R)and growth(G)could be simultaneously measured over the entire experimental period. Fish meal was used as the control protein, in the other two test diets, 30% protein was replaced by soybean meal protein and potato protein. Specific growth rate(SGR), food conversion efficiency(FCE)was significantly higher for fish meal group, and then the soybean meal group, the potato protein group was the lowest. The proportion of energy intake allocated to each channel also showed significant differences and could be expressed as follows: Fishmeal: 88.1C=13.77F+2.95U+24.1G+41.8R Soybean meal: 102.3C=17.1F+2.8U+16.4G+55.4R Potato protein: 105.5C=14.9F+1.3U+14.4G+67.4R
