THOREA(THOREACEAE, RHODOPHYTA)IN CHINA

Two species and two varieties of Thorea Bory emend. Necchi in China are described. They are T. hispida (Thorea) Desvaux emend. Sheath, Vis et Cole, T. hispida var. microspora S. L. Xie et Z. X. Shi, T. violacea Bory emend. Sheath, Vis et Cole and T. violacea var. longipilosa S. L. Xie et Z. X. Shi. Among them T. hispida var. microspora S. L. Xie et Z. X. Shi and T. violacea var. longipilosa S. L. Xie et Z. X. Shi are new varieties, T. violacea Bory emend. Sheath, Vis et Cole is recorded for the first time to China. Thorea hispida (Thorea) Desvaux var. microspora S. L. Xie et Z. X. Shi differs from var. hispida in having unbranched assimilatory filaments and small monosporangia. Thorea violacea Bory var. longipilosa S. L. Xie et Z. X. Shi differs from var. violacea in having long assimilatory filaments.
