  • Salangichthys (Neosalanx) jordani is a commercial fish in lake Taihu. Investigation on the biology of this fish, including spawning, feeding habit, migration, growth and life-span, was made during the year 1981—1982.Individuals of one year old attain sexual maturity. Spawning season commences from the middle part of March to end of May. Spawning is in the lake bay, and the adhesive eggs are attached to a submerged vegetation or to other substance. Fertilized eggs hatch in about 118 hours 23 minutes at a temperature range of 14.5—25.0℃.Salangichthys (Neosalanx) jordani is a kind of zooplankton feeder mainly feeding on Cladocera and Copepoda. The fries grow slow; they reach fishing size (40 mm and above) at the subsequent spawning season. The life-span is only one year and parent fish die soon after breeding.
