Abstract
The result of scanning electron microscopical examination of the gill of Cyprinus carpio is described. The external structures of the gill filaments and the gill lamellae showed the presence of various features such as indentations, micropits and crevices. The possible functions of these morphological characteristics in relation to physiology of fish gill are discussed.
