Abstract
Gobiocypris rarus is a small cyprinid fish bearing the pharyngeal teeth of formal 2.4-4.2. The development of pharyngeal dentition in this species was oberved using larvae of successive stages. Pharyngeal teeth on the minor row in the adult was found to be the remnantsof the earlier replacement teeth. Teeth on the major row, arranged in a line, are of two generations. The process of dental replacement are similar in the adults and in the larva1,and canbe accounted for and interpreted by Edmnud's Zahnreihe theory and Osborn's hypothesis.
