  • Chloroplast less mutants of E. gracilis and E. intermedia were generated by treatment with Ofloxacin Absorption spectra and autofluorescence microscopic observations showed that chlorophyll was not synthesized in the two mutants Using DAPI fluorescence photomicrograph, plastid DNA was found in Astasia longa, a colorless species of Euglenoid, but not in the ofloxacin induced mutants of Euglena, which suggest that plastids have been completely lost in the two mutants SDS-PAGE indicated that specific proteins were synthesized in the wild type and mutant strains respectively
