Abstract
The morphology and infraciliature of Vorticella campanula Ehrenberg, 1831 were investigated and described from life and protargol impregnated specimens. Wuhan population of this species is characterized by: body constantly wide-belled shaped with one layer of peristomial lip considerably everted and peristomial disc moderately elevated; one contractile vacuole apically positioned; cytoplasm opaque with numerous lipoid globelet; oral apparatus typical of the genus of Voticella, the peniculus 3 composed of 3 rows of kineties, of which one near the peniculus 2 was stopped at the joint of peniculus 1 and 3, about 1/2 of the two peniculus in length; the longitudinal fibre coarsefibred, sparse, ca 40-50, while the fibre of the peristomal disc net coarse and shows as the spoke-like. Additionally, the taxonomic implication of above features was discussed.
