Abstract
Haematococcus pluvialis,a kind of unicellular freshwater green algae, has been proved to be one of the most effective natural sources of astaxanthin.Astaxanthin can be used in aquculture, food, medical and cosmetical industries etc, thus it has a promising future, due to its anti oxidation and effective coloration. Aim at the key technological problems for mass culture of the Haematococcus,4 strains of Haematococcus plurialis from our laboratory collection were studied. They were cultured under 10℃,15℃,20℃,25℃,28℃respectively,and were investigated growth rate, biomass, astaxanthin content and productivity. The results are as follow:1):Optimal cultivation temperature of 4 strains were H.pluvalis 26:20 ℃ ;H.pluvalis 30:25 ℃ ;H.pluvalis 34:20 ℃ ;H.pluvalis WZ:15℃respectively.2) Astaxanthin content and productivity of 4 strains were H.pluvalis 26:2.41%—3 16℃ and 46.51—54.35mg/L; H.pluvalis 30:0.94%—1.34% and 7.89—13.13mg/L; H.pluvalis 34:1.41%—1.83% and 10.53 —12 26 mg/L; H.pluvalis WZ: 2.40%—2.59% and 37.84—40.15mg/L.According to culture temperature, astaxanthin content and productivity, H.pluvialis 26 and H.pluvialis WZ were selected as strains suitable for mass culture. The temperature adaptation of H.pluvialis WZ and H.pluvialis 26 are complementary: H.pluvialis WZ is adaptable to lower temperature(10℃—15℃),and H.pluvialis26 is adaptable to higher temperature (20℃—28℃). Using H.pluvialis WZ in cool season and H.pluvialis 26 in warm season respectively for mass culture would extend production duration and thus realize higher productivity.
