EXTRACTION AND DETERMINATION OF α-TOCOPHEROL IN FRESHWATER ALGA,EUGLENA SANGINEA

Among the vitamin-E group,α-tocopherol is the most active member.As to itscurative effects the modern concept is that it is not only a medicine for fertility,butalso an accessory drug in the cure of hepatitis,hypertension,etc.In the presentpaper,a method of extraction and determination of α-tocopherol in freshwater alga Euglena sanginea is described.It is interesting that there is a considerable amount(0.6—1.0 mg/g) of α-tocopherol in this alga.
